The capable wife!

I have just been doing my quiet time for today – no I don’t do it every day although I ought to(!) – and had a look at Proverbs 31.  The passage is entitled ‘The Capable Wife’, and boy oh boy, the number of craft related activities she gets up to is amazing!

‘She keeps herself busy making wool and linen cloth’  verse 13

‘She brings home food from out-of-the-way places, as merchant ships do’  verse 14

‘She spins her own thread and weaves her own cloth’  verse 19

‘She makes bedspreads and wears clothes of fine purple linen’  verse 22

‘She makes clothes and belts, and sells them to merchants’  verse 24

There is something to keep you going for all those 20 minute sessions!  But these are the things on the surface.  The outward things. It is these things which underlie her love. The love that goes into all that she makes..

She is a hard worker, strong and industrious’  verse 17

‘She is generous to the poor and needy’  verse 20

‘She is strong and respected and not afraid of the future’  verse 25

‘She speaks with gentle wisdom’  verse 26

”She is always busy and looks after her family’s needs’ verse 27

And underneath this layer is the love she has for her Lord.  The Lord who up holds her and keeps her safe.  The Lord who loves her unconditionally.  So, may His love shine on you and shine out in your smile. And in all the things you make and do!  Amen.

Hi Alison, How amazing! I am doing a study course on Proverbs 31 at the moment. I have found it to be so encouraging and uplifting – it’s called “Because of Jesus” by Connie Witter. I would highly recommend it. There is a web site and in the States you can attend conferences, but the study book which you can do either as a group or alone – I am doing it alone and find it really encouraging. The ISBN is 1-56322-077-6 my daughter in law has just bought one off Amazon.
and may God bless YOU and YOUR smile Alison!
    Blessings!
    Val
